Hey guys! If you’re reading this that means I’ve sparked your curiosity. Maybe you lift weights. Maybe you’re a runner. Perhaps you’re a long time athlete (one of our favorite instructors at Studio Physique, David, is a former professional soccer player) . You might be put off by words like “stretch” and “tone”. I love teaching men like you! Within the first five minutes of class, I guarantee the intensity of this workout will blow your mind.
I remember when one very strong, athletic guy who had never taken a Lagree class before stopped midway through an exercise for a quick sip of water. He looked at me and whispered “Wow, I don’t know how you ladies make this look so easy!” Which I of course replied with “It doesn’t get easier, you just get stronger!”.
Here’s why Lagree Fitness will challenge even the strongest man, yet be completely doable for a first timer who hasn’t worked out in a very long time.
Similar to the weights you stack onto a barbell at the gym, the Megaformer cranks up the resistance up to 250 pounds plus your body weight (don’t worry, we would never actually use all of the weight at one time!). The Lagree Fitness method was created by former body builder Sebastian Lagree. Unlike pilates done on a regular reformer, the patented Megaformer was designed with men in mind, larger and with heavier springs.
The slower you perform each exercise, the more muscle fibers are recruited. Every movement is completed to tempo at a slow, four count pace. We challenge you to slow it down even more as you become more advanced. Lagree will compliment your work by activating small stabilizing muscles if you normally lift weights or run using explosive movements. Expect to make visible gains within a few weeks of consistent cross-training on the megaformer.
I get it. As a woman I HATE when I walk out of a group fitness class thirty bucks poorer without some serious bang for my buck. In a class predominantly led by females, the last thing any guy wants to do is feel like a workout was a waste of time. I’m here to tell you the Megaformer challenges each and every person in a completely unique way. The person on the machine to your left is going to have a totally different experience than you do.
Megaformer springs are made to be adjusted. AKA more weight can be added for a man completing a bicep curl compared to a woman performing the same bicep curl. Slow your pace down to twice as slow as anyone else in the room to make your leg muscles beg for mercy in a lunge. Every single move is tailored to the individual client. The intensity can be ramped up or ramped down depending on your goals. However, I think you’ll find the intensity is PLENTY right where we start it ;). Bring a friend and have a competition, whoever can go slower and take the quickest transitions wins. It can get pretty competitive between friends in the studio!
