This blog is dedicated to the reasons why the Lagree Method at Studio Physique is not just amazing for your physical self, but your mental self as well.
Have you ever been going through a totally crap time and one day you realize that not only does your mom know all your woes, your friends do too, and in fact, so does the lady at Starbucks who makes your morning latte and, ok, maybe the checkout girl at Publix too? Even if we are the type of person to typically internalize emotions, in times of distress we can often times externalize without even realizing it. New York Times Best Selling Author Gabby Bernstein writes in The Universe Has Your Back, “Projection is Perception” so what we project is usually what we are perceiving. Note: if you haven’t read this book, do.
What does this have to do with getting your butt to Studio Physique a few days a week? Well, if you are dealing with some stress and even if you’re not at all, it’s not a secret that exercise directly affects our mental state in a positive way. The Lagree Method requires and demands an incredible amount of mind-body connection. The mind-body connection is when your mind essentially focuses in on something that it needs your body to do and your body will then do it. You can use your thoughts to tell your body to have a physical response. Time and time again has this been proven to positively decrease anxiety and stress and increase our overall sense of well being. This is a great way to get some of those self-defeating thoughts wrangled in too.
Because this forces the mind-body connection to really kick in. You absolutely have to focus in during Lagree on what you’re doing, why?
Next time you mentally check out during class or the mind wanders, notice how your form suffers.
Not only is the mind-body connection kicking your muscles into physical shape but mentally, you’re so focused on your posture, balance, slow pace, and tapping into what is working, that you have no mental space to worry about the outside world. For 50 minutes, you are honed in and tuned out of whatever is going on outside. This is a really truly incredible form of therapy if you think about it! For me personally, the outside world melts away for 50 minutes as I focus 100% on the muscle group I’m working, the pace at which I’m doing the move and of course, not falling off the Megaformer in those balance-heavy shaky moves!
Even if you’re not in a stressful time, the mind-body connection and focus that Lagree at Studio Physique forces you to use is a fabulous way to get that mind clear and clean for at least 50 minutes of your day.
There are a TON of resources on the internet regarding the positive mental affects exercise has on your body, google away and book your classes 🙂
