Now that summer is right around the corner, we should be feeling pretty good, right? We set some major goals for ourselves, we committed to a healthy lifestyle, we vowed to wake up at an ungodly hour each morning to get our sweat on. But guess what? Imagining what our ideal “summer body” looks like and actually following through with our plans are two totally different things. Despite our best efforts, let’s be honest…life gets in the way sometimes. Have no fear! Studio Physique is here to help you prevent workout relapse!
The number one cause of falling off the workout wagon is time. Lack of time, hectic schedules and poor planning cause the majority of us to put taking care of our bodies on the back burner. Put your Lagree classes on your schedule like you would any other obligation. If you know you want to workout three times per week, sign up for three classes and work your schedule around it. Saying to yourself “I’ll squeeze in a workout when I have time” won’t work, trust us we’ve tried it.
When life gets crazy the last thing we want to do is want to exercise. In order to find pleasure in working out during a stressful time it’s important to find an activity that you find enjoyable. Hop on a Megaformer and let the music and slow pace melt your stress away. Throw on a pair of roller-skates and head to the beach! Get your body moving in a way that adds to your relaxation. If you feel stressed, there’s no way you’re going to want to add more stress onto your body with an intense workout that leaves you feeling worse than when you started.
I think we can all admit now that the novelty of Spring has worn off, we’ve all caught a case of the “I’m not feelin’ its” at some point or another. That’s ok, we’re only human after all! I have one huge tip I give to newbies that can apply to people who are going through a workout relapse. Make a list of all the reasons you love working out. Improved sleep, better mood, increased energy, rockin’ bod and then refer to this list anytime you need to.
Remember that relapse is a normal part of lifestyle change: as humans, we are biologically programed to live habitually. Habits can be hard to break. You may have thought you had the perfect workout program to fit your lifestyle. However, this program may not have been right for your lifestyle at all! Play around with timing, nutrition and fitness goals in order to see what fits best.
