Picture this: You walk into your very first group fitness class. “Did I bring the right shoes? Do I even need shoes? Well I didn’t paint my toenails so I guess the shoes are staying on..Shoot does that girl have a towel with her? No one told me to bring a towel! Is anyone going to help me? Maybe I can back out the way I came in and no one will notice”.
Starting a new fitness routine can be scary! If you’re like us, you like to approach anything fitness related full of information. Walking into your first class can be intimidating. Here is a fitness instructor’s top 5 tips for beginners:
At Studio Physique we LOVE introducing new people to this workout. No seriously. There’s nothing more rewarding than watching someone walk in unsure and scared and then seeing them walk out sweaty, smiling and raving about how unique this workout was! Let us know you’re new and we’ll make sure we give you tips and guide you through each and every move.
Bob, Jack and Jill are on the machine next to you doing backflips, grunting and dripping sweat. You’re just focusing on figuring out where to position your hands (no, we don’t do any backflips, but you get the picture). IT’S OK. Lagree is one of the only exercises where a 19 year old and a 69 year old can workout simultaneously and both get a killer workout. Don’t worry about what your neighbor is doing and focus on learning each move. In a few classes I guarantee that you’ll be sweating and backflipping with the best of them ;).
I know you don’t want to hear this. “Why can’t I pick the machine in the back corner where no one will see me!?” In our studio, we face front, we face back, we use the back of the machine, we use the front of the machine. It’s important that you are able to see your peers no matter which way you are facing so that you can mimic the moves they are doing. You know what they say, imitation is the best form of flattery! Besides, you may be at the “front of the room” to start, but as soon as we face a different direction no one will be able to see you.
I totally get it. Once you fall in love with this workout it gets kind of addicting. “OMG I just love Lagree so much I signed up for classes every day this week. MUST.DO.LAGREE!” Slow it down and listen to your body. If this is your first time doing Lagree or even your first time working out in a while, your body is going to need a little extra TLC. Take a rest day between classes to allow your muscles to repair and grow back stronger and leaner. We recommend 3 classes per week to start off. Drink plenty of water before and after class and make sure you recover with some lean protein post workout.
The instructors and other members want you to succeed as much as you do! Happy Lagreeing!
